Purpose

This blog is coming from the perspective of a 19 year old lifetime New York Mets fan. I created this blog to show other true Mets fans, my 100% honest opinion on everything to do with our beloved yet disappointing franchise.

4 Game Win Streak

It's been a pretty rough road so far for the Mets this season. Before this current 4 game win streak they had lost 7 in a row and 9 out of their last 10, and also lost Chris Young, and Angel Pagan to the DL. It seemed as if not one starter could get past the 5th inning and nobody could hit with RISP. David Wright was in an 0-20 slump, the longest of his career and I was starting to wonder if he would ever turn it around. But now, during this short win streak it seems as if the Mets actually learned how to win some ball games.

During this last 6 game homestand, Mets starters have gone 4-2, with a 2.63 ERA,  7.0 innnings per start. Before that stretch they were 0-5, with a 5.74 ERA, and 4.2 innings per start. Even with the loss of Young, all of the pitchers on this team, including the bullpen have stepped up their game. Pelfrey looked great in his last start only giving up a run in 7 innings. He finally started challenging hitters and going back to the basics which made him a successful pitcher last season. Also, Dillon Gee. He was called up last week to start in place of Young and he did a wonderful job against the Braves to snap that long 7 game losing streak.

Not only have the pitchers stepped up their game, the whole lineup has been putting the ball in play, and hitting with RISP. I believe the real reason for the lineup doing so well is the addition of Jason Bay. Bay came off the DL last week, and just his presence in the lineup has given teammates like David Wright better pitches to hit. After his huge slump prior to the win streak, Wright has new blasted 3 HR's this week, and has been spraying the ball all over the field knocking home some RBI's. Protection in the lineup is what Wright really needs, just having Bay back in the lineup makes opposing pitchers think differently on how to pitch to him, and they know that the middle of this New York Met lineup is dangerous.

Hopefully, the Mets can continue to play up to there ability and not make a disgrace of themselves this season. Were only a month into baseball season, but it already feels like a rollar coaster ride, and there are still 140 games left to be played.

Were only 3 games into this long season, but I'm already incredibly excited for the Mets 3 game series starting in Philly tonight. They are the team to beat in this division, and on paper look unstoppable, but I know the Mets can at least take 2/3 and instill a lot of confidence in Terry Collins, and his players.

“As far as I’m concerned it’s Game Four,” David Wright told Steve Popper, a reporter for the Bergen Record. “It’s obviously a very, very good team. I think it’s a challenge. I don’t think either team is out to necessarily prove anything this early in the season. But it would be nice to go in there and win a series.”

If the Mets can come out of this series with a few wins it will give them a lot of momentum into their home opener on Friday and give this ball club a hot start to the season. Now I understand that this series is important, but either way if the Mets win this or lose this series it does not decide the division, but winning games against  rivals such as the Phillies really pumps up the players.

The first game of the Mets 3 game series starts tonight at 7:05 with Chris Young making his Mets debut against Phillies starter Cole Hammels. It will be interesting to see how Young does in his first start with the team, I have high hopes that he can get back to his 17-18 win season he had with San Diego and help the Mets win ball games.

Carlos Beltran's Move to RF

I hope spring training flies by I can not wait for the season to begin. No matter how the Mets are projected to play every season, I always look forward to Opening Day. Who knows, maybe everything could fall in favor of the Mets and they can make an appearance this October in the playoffs. Or maybe, everything could fall apart like the last few seasons and we'll all be disappointed yet again. But that's what I wait for, the day when the Mets finally win again and all the fans are going crazy.

Almost Spring Training

Spring training is only a small time away, and I'm very exctied to start watching some baseball again. Right now for the Mets, there are a lot of questiopn marks, but I think if they can stay healthy there is no reason this team can't be a contender. As of right now, the lineup looks to be very strong, with Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Bay, and Ike Davis on baord, but can all of them stay healthy?

And, can our reconstructed starting rotation make the amount of good starts we need to win games? I think so. If Johan can come back as early and healthy as possible, then Big Pelf, Dickey, Niese, Chris Young, and either Capuano, or Dillon Gee can keep us in the race.

It's another season of Mets baseball that I am greatly looking forward to, and I am hoping for the best! LETS GO METS!!
